Abstract
The anthropogenetic structure of four island and peninsular population s divided into eight sub-population groups (Brac East, Brac West, Hvar East, Hvar West, Korcula East, Korcula West, Peljesac East and Peljes ac West) of the Middle Dalmatia, Croatia, is analyzed on the basis of the study of seven different erythrocyte antigen systems or groups (AB O, Rhesus, Kell, P, Duffy, Kidd and Lutheran), and three erythrocyte i soenzyme systems (ESD, ACP and AK). The average sample size was 400 in dividuals. Allele frequencies and genetic distances were computed and the results indicate that all the populations in the study have preser ved their distinctive characteristics over the course of their (micro) evolution to the present day. This is specially noticeable for the pop ulation of Korcula, as it distinguished itself from the other three po pulations by a greater degree of isolation.
