N. Galic et al., THE INFLUENCE OF ELECTRICAL POTENTIAL WITHIN THE ORAL CAVITY ON THE INCIDENCE OF SUBJECTIVE SYMPTOMS, Collegium antropologicum, 20, 1996, pp. 83-86
For the purpose of this study, electronic endodontic instrument (EED)
was used for measuring the height of the electric potential of the gin
giva, of the fresh amalgam fillings, of the seven day old fillings, be
fore and after polishing. Four hundred (400) fillings in 187 patients
were examined. The aim was to establish the quality of the subjective
and objective discomforts as well as influence of prosthetic metals (g
old, palador) in the oral cavity on voltage of the electric potential
and on occurrence of discomforts. The difference in potential between
the fresh, polished and unpolished fillings was statistically signific
ant in all amalgams tested. Electric potential of the amalgam fillings
decreases due to aging and polishing. Subjective discomforts were pre
sent in 1.2% of the total number of cases and in 6.7% of the patients
tested, having prosthetic metals in the mouth.
