V. Tzelepis et al., ANALYSIS OF A PASSIVELY MODE-LOCKED SELF-STARTING ALL-FIBER SOLITON LASER, Journal of lightwave technology, 11(11), 1993, pp. 1729-1736
In this paper, modelling results are presented for a passively mode-lo
cked figure-eight laser (F8L) supporting a linear polarization state.
Starting from amplified spontaneous emission, the model produces solit
on, chirped, red-shifted ultrashort pulses. The self-starting conditio
ns of the laser are investigated, and the erbium-doped fiber amplifier
gain threshold to passively mode-lock the laser is also determined as
a function of the center coupler splitting ratio (C(r)). In addition,
the influence of C(r), as well as the effects of the cavity length (L
(c)), first- and second-order group velocity dispersion to the F8L ope
rating parameters, and output pulse characteristics such as width, pea
k power, chirp, self-frequency shift and envelope distortion, are stud
ied.
