Abstract
This article presents a normalized approach for optimal design of abru pt junctions between straight and curved waveguides operating in the W hispering Gallery Mode regime. The optimalization includes the widths of both the straight and the curved waveguide, the lateral offset betw een them, and the bending radius of the curved waveguide. With this ap proach optimum bend design is possible from a simple set of formulas o r normalized graphs. Predicted transmission losses for optimally desig ned junctions are well below 0.1 dB.
