ON THE FACTORS DETERMINING THE ISOMERS OF METAL-CLUSTERS

Two similar semiempirical interatomic potentials were used to study 13 -atom Pt clusters. One predicts very compact icosahedral structure wit h high symmetry while the other predicts open and fluxional structures with low symmetries. This can be understood in terms of the low-coord ination atomic binding energies produced by the potentials.
