Correlational and factor analytical studies were conducted to develop
and evaluate a scale of work orientations for women, the Work Role Ori
entation Scale (WROS). Subjects totalled over 600. They were female un
dergraduates and saleswomen employed in the insurance, banking and pub
lishing industry. Subjects were administered the WROS and selected per
sonality measures. The saleswomen's turnover intention, sales performa
nce and job satisfaction were also assessed The test-retest reliabilit
y for the WROS was found to be r(65) = .77, p <.05. Validity coefficie
nts for the WROS when based on sales performance were found to be .20
and .23.
