Starting from the known unimodal character of the momentum density gam
ma(p) of numerous ground-state atoms, two general inequalities relatin
g the location of the maximum p(max), the value at the origin gamma(0)
, and the momentum expectation values [p(alpha)], alpha > - 3, are fou
nd. As a limiting case, an upper bound to p(max) is given in terms of
the number of electrons N and the mean logarithmic momentum [lnp]. Fin
ally, the quality of these bounds is numerically analyzed.
