Abstract
In this study, prostaglandin E(1) (PGE(1)) was administered daily in a subcutaneous heterotopic jejunal model in rats to compare the results of the viability rate to those in the non-PGE(1) group. The viability rate of the PGE(1) group was 28.6% in the day 5 ligated group, 75.0% in the day 7 ligated group and 100% in the day 14 ligated group. The v iability rate of the non-PGE, group was 0%, 37.5%, and 100%. The resul ts of the PGE(1) group in the day 5 and day 7 ligated groups were sign ificantly different from those in the non-PGE(1) group. These results indicate that the administration of PGE(1) facilitates the neovascular ization necessary for survival of the grafted tissue and shortens the time for the graft to become viable at the implantation site.
