Abstract
Biotransformations of benzaldehyde to benzyl alcohol by whole cells of baker's yeast immobilised in a 50%:50% silicone-alginate mixed hydrop hobic/hydrophilic matrix were successfully carried out in apolar solve nts. In more polar solvents, the biotransformation was ineffective whe n either free or entrapped cells were used.
