Rb. Clariana, A REVIEW OF MULTIPLE-TRY FEEDBACK IN TRADITIONAL AND COMPUTER-BASED INSTRUCTION, Journal of computer-based instruction, 20(3), 1993, pp. 67-74
Feedback is an important component of computer-based instruction (CBI)
. In CBI, the correct answer can be provided after one response or aft
er several responses. It remains unclear which approach is more effect
ive. This study compares the instructional effects of multiple-try fee
dback forms (MTF) to single-try feedback forms (STF) and no feedback.
The findings of this study confirm that MTF is more effective than no
feedback. However, no differences were found between STF and MTF, but
an interaction between prior knowledge and number of feedback trials s
eemed likely. STF was more effective than MTF for low prior-knowledge
students, while MTF was more effective than STF for high prior-knowled
ge students.
