Abstract
The dependences of G values of the final gamma-radiolysis products suc h as H-2, 2,3-butanediol and acetaldehyde on the absorbed dose in aque ous ethanol solution and on acetone concentration in liquid ethanol we re studied. It was found that alpha-hydroxyethyl radical can undergo b oth recombination reaction and disproportionation reaction at the almo st same rate in aqueous ethanol solution, but only go through the reco mbination reaction in liquid ethanol. When increasing acetone concentr ation, the G(CH3CHO) value rises and G((CH3CHOH)(2)) value decreases. A new final product, 2-methyl-2,3-butanediol, is found in the irradiat ed acetone-ethanol system.
