The purpose of this compendium is to provide information on chlamydios
is (formerly known as psittacosis) in companion birds to public health
officials, veterinarians, the companion bird industry, and others con
cerned with control of the disease. This document serves as the basis
for chlamydiosis control programs throughout the United States. Its ad
option will result in standardization of procedures among jurisdiction
s, which is necessary for an effective national control program. These
recommendations will be reviewed and revised as necessary.
