Roridin H, a non host-specific macrocyclic trichothecene toxin produce
d in culture by a strain of Dendrodochium toxicum (syn. Myrothecium ro
ridum) showed some phytotoxic effects on corn root cells. Roridin H in
duced an efflux of potassium, caused depolarizations of membrane poten
tials (E(M)), inhibited of P-32 uptake and increased the respiration.
The results suggest that roridin H is able to induce nonspecific membr
ane alterations e.g. cellular ion transport.
