COLOPROCTECTOMY WITH ILEOANAL POUCH ANAST OMOSIS PERFORMED BY MECHANICAL SUTURE WITHOUT MUCOSECTOMY AND WITHOUT DECOMPRESSION ILEOSTOMY

Abdominal proctocolectomy with formation of an ileal reservoir anastom osed onto the anal canal using a stappler device is described. this te chnique avoids also stripping the mucosa from the anal canal which is time consuming and often difficult and incomplet. The avoidance of a t emporary ileostomy did not lead to an increase in post operative compl ications. Seventeen patients have undergone this procedure for ulcerat ive colitis and the advantages and disadvantages of it are discussed.
