Abstract
A new approach based on integration of the fuzzy set theory and an exp ert system to solve the multicase VAR planning problem is presented in this paper. The multicase VAR planning problem involves the determina tion of an installation pattern of locations and sizes of new compensa tors for multiple cases. The expert system is designed to solve one ca se at a time. A fuzzy reasoning process incorporating planners' experi ences is used to combine the individual information obtained from each case. The IEEE 30- and 118-bus systems are used to show the capabilit ies of the proposed approach.
