Abstract
The fundamental limit in transmission distance, associated with the Go rdon-Haus timing jitter, is evaluated for an optical-fiber pulse posit ion modulation (PPM) soliton system. We demonstrate that soliton PPM i s more susceptible to this type of timing jitter and that the maximum span length is limited to 65% of that of an equivalent soliton PCM sys tem.
