The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is currently establishing a strong nationa
l programme in remote sensing technology. The potential use of remote
sensing for resource and environmental management is widely recognized
and the Faculty of Earth Sciences (FES) of the King Abdulaziz Univers
ity is participating actively in this national programme by establishi
ng education, training and research facilities in remote sensing for E
arth scientists. An overview of these facilities, which include an aca
demic programme and laboratories for digital image analysis and geogra
phical information systems, photogrammetry and photo reproduction, is
presented in this article.
