Using time differential perturbed angular correlation (TDPAC) we inves
tigated the Ta-181 nuclear quadrupole interaction (NQI) in situ during
intercalation of ethylenediamine (EDA) into IT-TaS2. A non-hexagonal
square-root 7 x square-root 7 superstructure related to a charge densi
ty wave is formed with the phasing onto the lattice being derived from
the NQI data. Upon heating to 473 K the Ta metal coordination changes
irreversibly from octahedral to trigonal prismatic.
