This paper presents a novel approach for the luminance compensation pr
oblem which utilizes only the nonlinear gamma compensated components o
f the luminance signal. The proposed technique is based on nonlinear n
etworks whose coefficients have been adaptively trained to perform lum
inance compensation. The obtained result can be easily implemented in
real time, and the compensation scheme offers versatility, in the sens
e that it can be applied either at transmitter or at the receiver.
