Abstract
An efficient, totally stereoselective two-step synthesis of cis- and t rans-carbapenem intermediates based upon the reaction of N-methoxycarb onylmethyl 1,3-iminoketones 1 with benzyloxyacetyl chloride followed b y a stereocontrolled intramolecular aldol-type condensation, has been developed.
