(3R,4S)-3-(protected hydroxy)-4-substituted beta-lactams bearing N-alk
oxycarbonyl, N-aryloxycarbonyl, and N-carbamoyl groups are found to be
useful for the syntheses of taxotere and its analogs through coupling
with baccatin III.
