Abstract
Since China's implementation of economic reforms in 1979, income inequ ality has been a subject of considerable concern. This article examine s the inequality of wages between provinces from 1981-1991 for all uni ts, as well as for state and collective work units separately for 1981 -1988. The findings show an increasing rate in wage inequality through out the period, with implications extending to the political, social a nd economic areas.
