Abstract
To complement planned experiments in which deeply bound pionic atom st ates are to be produced, the reaction (pi-, pi0) was examined close to threshold. Branching ratios for that reaction on CH2, Al-27, P-31, S- 32, Sc-45, and In-115 were determined experimentally. The results were compared with previous experimental work and with a calculation based on the Panofsky ratio. The results can be understood in terms of the shell structure of the target nuclei.
