In a magnetized discharge plasma (n(p) congruent-to 5 . 10(10) e/cm3,
T(p) congruent-to 1 eV, B congruent-to 200 G, P congruent-to 5 . 10(-4
) Torr) whistler waves are destabilized by the primary electrons which
ionize the gas. These electrons are not present in the afterglow plas
ma, as shown by probe measurements; the plasma is stable and artificia
lly excited whistler waves can be studied.
