W. Zhang et al., BENIGN FIBROUS HISTIOCYTOMA OF THE STOMACH - REPORT OF A CASE, SURGERY TODAY-THE JAPANESE JOURNAL OF SURGERY, 23(12), 1993, pp. 1089-1093
We report herein an extremely very rare case of primary benign fibrous
histiocytoma of the stomach found in a 56-year-old man who presented
with a 2-week history of nausea and anorexia. Gastrointestinal X-rays
and endoscopy revealed a protruding lesion in the stomach, but biopsie
s failed to demonstrate the nature of the tumor. Histopathologic inves
tigation of the resected tumor showed the typical features of benign f
ibrous histiocytoma: Consisting of an admixture of spindly fibroblast-
like and roundish histiocyte-like cells ar ranged in a storifirm patte
rn. Furthermore, immunohistochemical staining with alpha-1-antichymotr
ypsin was positive for histiocyte-like cells in the tumor. The patient
has shown no evidence of recurrence in the 2 years of follow-up since
his operation.
