M. Scepi et al., HERNIATED APPENDIX IN A LEFT CRURAL POSIT ION - REPORT OF ONE CASE - EXPLANATION BY HUMAN ONTOGENY, Journal de chirurgie, 130(11), 1993, pp. 479-482
The authors report about one case of left crural strangulation contain
ing the appendix. The right flexure of the colon is fixed in its usual
infrahepatic position. The ascending colon, on the other hand, floats
, and the cecum is in a left iliac position. An ontogenic explanation
is proposed, on the basis of recent anatomical work, and compared with
traditional hypotheses about the evolution of the gastrointestinal tr
act in relation to the development of the peritoneum.
