Abstract
Coliform bacteria concentrations downstream of a sanitary wastewater o utfall decline as a result of mixing and die-off. The progression of t he mixing and dilution of the wastewater with distance must be quantif ied before bacterial decay can be assessed. The application of a numer ical mixing model for the prediction of bacterial concentrations downs tream of an outfall is described. Field measurements of coliform bacte ria and tracer concentrations in the Mackenzie River downstream of Nor man Wells, N.W.T. are used as a case study.
