Jl. Woodard, CONFIRMATORY FACTOR-ANALYSIS OF THE WECHSLER MEMORY SCALE-REVISED IN A MIXED CLINICAL POPULATION, Journal of clinical and experimental neuropsychology, 15(6), 1993, pp. 968-973
Previous exploratory factor analyses (EFA) of the Wechsler Memory Scal
e-Revised (WMS-R) have yielded highly disparate factor structures, whi
le the few reported confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) of this instrum
ent have been more consistent. The present study employed a CFA approa
ch to identify the factor structure of the WMS-R in a mixed clinical s
ample of 306 patients, the majority of whom had sustained mild, diffus
e brain injury. Consistent with previous CFA studies, the present stud
y found that a three-factor solution (attention/concentration, immedia
te memory, delayed recall) fit the data significantly better than comp
eting models. The validity of separate verbal and visual memory indice
s was not supported, perhaps because of the heterogeneity of the sampl
e.
