Abstract
Slope failure as the result of heavy rainfall, is a major problem in H ong Kong. The results of a study on rainfall and subsequent slope fail ures occurring during 24 severe rainstorms from 1982-1989 are presente d. It is suggested that intensity and areal extent of rainfall, as wel l as degree of urbanisation are important features determining the sca le of a slope failure event.
