Abstract
New semiconductor compound Cd1-xMnxTe exhibits strong Faraday rotation in the interband region. It is shown by measurements of magneto-optic al Kerr effect and reflection in magnetic field that unusually large e xciton Zeeman splitting plays an essential role in the observed Farada y rotation. A possible explanation of the observed splitting (correspo nding to a ''g factor'' value up to 100) by exchange interaction of ex citons with manganese d states is suggested.
