Ae. Kiryunin et Am. Moiseev, ON THE PRECISION OF MEASUREMENT OF THE T-QUARK MASS AT A (P)OVER-BAR-P COLLIDER AT SQUARE-S=6 TEV .2., Physics of atomic nuclei, 56(12), 1993, pp. 1734-1740
Results are presented from an analysis of factors affecting the resolu
tion in the invariant mass of the t quark, on the basis of simulated e
vents described in the first part of this work. It is shown that the a
ccuracy of jet spectroscopy at hadron colliders is essentially limited
by gluon emission from partons of the final state, and by background
particles in the cones of the hard jets of partons from the hadronic d
ecay of the t quark. These factors reduce the effect of precision calo
rimetry on the accuracy of measurement of m(t). A special algorithm ha
s been developed and utilized for the selection of hard jets, and has
been optimized for the search for the t quark and reconstruction of it
s mass. As a result, it is shown that the systematic errors in the det
ermination of m(t) at a hadron collider by means of jet spectroscopy c
annot be less than 3 GeV.
