Abstract
Column chromatography (aluminium oxide - silicic acid) has been applie d to separate azaarenes from dichloromethane extracts from the airborn e particulate matter samples collected in 12 places of the Upper Siles ia region. GC-MS analysis and capillary gas chromatography of azaarene s fraction made it possible to identify 18 azaarenes and determine qua ntitatively those which dominate in the organic matter emitted to the atmosphere in the highly industrialized regions (quinoline, 4-azafluor ene, acridine, benzo[h]quinoline, benzo[f]quinoline, phenanthridine).
