N. Schwella et al., INTRAPERITONEAL CARBOPLATIN IN THE TREATMENT OF BULKY DISEASE OVARIAN-CANCER - EXPERIENCE IN 2 CASES, Onkologie, 16(5), 1993, pp. 360-363
Background: Intraperitoneal (i.p.) chemotherapy (CT) is an attractive
treatment modality for cancers usually restricted to the peritoneal ca
vity. This seems to be particular true for ovarian cancer. Patients an
d Methods: Here we describe our experience in 2 heavily pretreated pat
ients with progressive bulky disease ovarian carcinoma treated by i.p.
carboplatin. Results: The 1st woman showed stable disease for 16 mont
hs, the 2nd a partial remission lasting 5 months. Toxicities and side
effects of i.p. CT were mild, the patients remained in good physical c
ondition. Conclusions: 1) i.p. carboplatin is a well-tolerated treatme
nt modality, and 2) it can produce objective clinical responses in som
e patients with bulky ovarian carcinoma. This treatment modality shoul
d be considered for further clinical evaluation, especially for pallia
tive purpose.
