In May 1993, the European Retrievable Carrier (Eureca) was lowered fro
m a 490 to a 476 km orbit in preparation for its retrieval by the Spac
e Shuttle on 24 June. This article reviews the flight-dynamics operati
ons conducted by ESOC during the retrieval phase, including the manoeu
vres that were performed by Eureca to reach the retrieval orbit, as we
ll as the conditions and the philosophy that led to the final target t
rajectory.
