Abstract
Increased dependency on telecommunications is driving the need for hig h service availability and survivability in modern networks. This is m ade more acute by the large scope of potential failures in a high capa city fiber network with high levels of functional integration in nodal equipment. This article defines the problem and discusses the solutio ns available in an SDH network.
