Abstract
A study has been made of the vapour-phase N-alkylation of cyclohexylam ine or 2-ethyl-hexyl-amine by n-1-heptanol or n-1-pentanol on an indus trial copper-zinc-aluminium oxide catalyst (SNM-1) and a reduced, prom oted, sintered iron catalyst. The best yields of asymmetrical secondar y and tertiary amines (up to 99% in total) are observed at a temperatu re of 175-195-degrees-C with an amine/alcohol molar ratio of 0.2.
