Aj. Alvarez et al., USE OF SOLID-PHASE PCR FOR ENHANCED DETECTION OF AIRBORNE MICROORGANISMS, Applied and environmental microbiology, 60(1), 1994, pp. 374-376
The solid-phase PCR (SP-PCR) was compared with a culture-based techniq
ue for the detection of aerosolized Escherichia coli DH1. Results with
SP-PCR showed an increase in detection sensitivity over that of cultu
re methods. Therefore, SP-PCR may be useful for the detection of airbo
rne microorganisms which may be nonculturable because of aerosolizatio
n or sampling stress.
