Abstract
Analysis of the geographical variation in the genus Scaphiophis sugges ts that S. raffreyi Bocourt should be reinstated as a full species, wi th S. calciatti Scortecci as a synonym. In S. albopunctatus Peters the re are ring clines in counts of midbody scale rows and ventrals, the t erminal populations in northern Zambia and southwestern Tanzania showi ng no overlap in these counts.
