The surface-modified layer of calcium-ion-implanted titanium and disso
lution of calcium ions from the layer into nitric acid (pH - 0.99) and
phosphate-citric acid buffer (pH 5.2) solutions at 310 were character
ized using Auger electron spectroscopy. Results showed that the surfac
e-modified layer consisted of three layers while calcium existed in wh
ole depth of the surface-modified layer. The calcium ions eluted into
both solutions by the dissolution of the surface-modified layer itself
and the dissolution of calcium by the diffusion through the surface-m
odified layer. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
