Km. Doxsee et al., CALCIUM COMPLEXATION BY ALPHA-HYDROXY KETONES - CHARACTERIZATION OF ACALCIUM COMPLEX OF PHENACYL ALCOHOL, Journal of organic chemistry, 58(26), 1993, pp. 7557-7561
Solution and solid-state structural data are presented for a discrete
complex of phenacyl alcohol with calcium chloride, [(C6H5COCH2OH)2Ca(H
2O)3]2+.2Cl-.H2O, in which phenacyl alcohol serves as a bidentate liga
nd, with coordination of calcium to both the carbonyl oxygen and the h
ydroxyl group. This constitutes the first structural characterization
of a calcium complex with the important pharmacophoric alpha-hydroxy k
etone functionality.
