A single-stage method for the synthesis of dialkyl derivatives of 2-im
idazolidinethione is developed, which consists of treating 2-imidazoli
dinethione with alkyl halides in the presence of caustic potash in an
atmosphere of dimethyl sulfoxide at 20-50-degrees-C. Thus, 1, 3-di-n-a
myl-2-imidazolidinethione, 1, 4-di-n-amylethylenediamine-4-thioaldehyd
e, 1,3-di-n-butylthioethyl-2-imidazolidinethione, butylthioethyl-1,4-e
thylenediamine-4-thioaldehyde, 1,3-diisobutylthioethyl-2-imidazolidine
thione, and 2,12-dimethyl-4,7,10-trithiatridecane are produced. The co
mpounds prepared are tested as extracting agents of noble metals, part
icularly during the extraction of silver from solutions of AgNO3 in H2
O and in AgNO3, as well as for purification of wastewater of technolog
ical processes from silver. We can recommend them for a complete extra
ction of silver from wastewater.
