Abstract
Five bacteriophages of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans isolated f rom periodontal pockets in three European countries are genetically hi ghly related: they have the same virion structure, and the DNA genomes show identical or similar restriction fragment patterns and extensive DNA homology. However, they form two immunity groups. Their hosts bel ong to two genotypes. The significance with respect to pathogenesis an d diagnostics is discussed.
