J. Yoshida et al., SQUAMOUS-CELL CARCINOMA OF THE SPLENIC FLEXURE OF THE COLON - REPORT OF A CASE, SURGERY TODAY-THE JAPANESE JOURNAL OF SURGERY, 24(1), 1994, pp. 75-79
A 51-year-old Japanese man underwent resection of a tumor in the splen
ic flexure of the colon, which proved to be squamous cell carcinoma. A
t the time of presentation, the liver was found to have multiple metas
tases. On the 39th postoperative day, the patient died of liver failur
e. An autopsy demonstrated metastatic nodules on the pleura and parenc
hyma of both lungs, as well as in the liver, but failed to show any ot
her primary squamous cell carcinoma. We emphasize that a meticulous se
arch to disprove adenosquamous carcinoma is mandatory before a diagnos
is of squamous cell carcinoma of the colon can be confirmed.
