The free-radical copolymerization of styrene with (2-oxo-1,3-dioxolan-
4-yl)methyl methacrylate (cyclic carbonate of glycidyl methacrylat; GM
ACC) was carried out in N,N-dimethylformamide and toluene solution und
er batch conditions. In toluene, a precipitate was formed during polym
erization. The composition of the copolymers was determined by H-1-NMR
, IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The monomer reactivity ratio
s were calculated by different methods from the copolymer composition
data. The values obtained for the different techniques were compared a
nd showed a good agreement.
