In 1993, two steam generators were replaced in a single run within onl
y 44 days at the Beznau Nuclear Power Station. Already in 1971 it had
been necessary to plug up heating tubes. For replacement, the outer an
d the inner concrete cylinders of the containment together with the pr
otective shield had to be opened. Radiation exposure of the personnel
was kept low throughout the entire replacement work, the total dose re
maining below 1100 mSv.
