Abstract
A new species, Lepanthes caritensis, is described and illustrated. The re are now nine species of Lepanthes known to occur in Puerto Rico. Pl ant habitat and floral morphology of L. caritensis is most similar to that of L. sanguinea. A survey of the area where the new species is lo cated suggests that it is rare and should be protected under the Feder al Endangered Species Act.
