The use of a mixture (20:80, w/w) of keto-derivatized/underivatized po
ly(styrene-divinylbenzene) copolymer for selective solid phase extract
ion (SPE) of phenols in environmental water samples is described. Phen
ols have been determined by liquid chromatography coupled with amperom
etric detection. Experimental conditions for use of gradient in electr
ochemical detection and comparison with other preconcentration techniq
ues, such as on-line preconcentration and liquid-liquid extraction are
also described. Different recoveries of phenolic compounds in environ
mental samples according to the ratio of derivatized/underivatized cop
olymer in SPE device are discussed.
