Pk. Chaudhuri et S. Ray, TORSION OF NONHOMOGENEOUS ELASTIC HALF-SPACE WITH EMBEDDED PENNY-SHAPED FLAWS, Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics, 24(12), 1993, pp. 801-815
This investigation is concerned with solution of the elastic problem i
n which a non-homogeneous elastic half-space z greater-than-or-equal-t
o -h with a flaw in it at z = 0 is acted on by a shearing force on the
face z = -h due to the rotation of a rigidly cemented circular shaft
of given radius through some angle. Specifically two types of flaws ar
e considered : (A) a penny shaped rigid inclusion, and (B) a penny sha
ped crack. In each case the problem is reduced to a system of Fredholm
integral equations. The numerical values of the measure of strength o
f singularity at the rim of the rigid shaft and the flaw, the torsiona
l moment and the relative rotation are plotted in different figures an
d compared with the associated graphs in homogeneous medium.
