Treatment of 2-(2-oxopropylthio)benzoxazoles 1a-d with an excess of pr
imary amines in acetic acid or in perchloric acid affords 3-substitute
d 2-(2-hydroxyphenylimino)-4-methylthiazoles 4a-q. Interaction of thia
zoles 4a,i with diazomethane leads to the corresponding O-methyl deriv
atives. The structure of compounds 4a-q is confirmed by an X-ray analy
sis of compound 4d.
