Experimental investigation of the cyclic behavior of high-strength con
crete (HSC) short beams with lower flexural reinforcement ratio is rep
orted Fifteen cantilever beam specimens were subjected to monotonic lo
ading and various types of cyclic loadings. The main variables include
d shear span-to-depth ratio, compressive strength of concrete, and loa
ding histories. The compressive strength of concrete varied from 32 MP
a (4500 psi) to 70 MPa (10,000 psi). Test results indicated that the d
isplacement ductility factor of HSC short beams with lower amount of f
lexural reinforcement is about 5 to 6. The trend of degradation in str
ength and stiffness, as well as the energy dissipation capacity of bea
m specimens, became more pronounced as the shear stress level in the p
lastic hinge region increased.
